The NBPC has an internal email from the United States Citizen and Immigration Service (USCIS) showing that extra overtime is being provided to employees to process as many applications for citizenship as possible prior to November 8.
The NBPC also has text messages from upper level managers telling us that criminal prosecution cases are being put on hold in order for judges to adjudicate these applications. Historically, we have seen criminal background checks curtailed in situations like this, thus allowing some criminals to gain United States citizenship.
We are also experiencing a new surge of illegal immigration along the Southern Border. This is not unexpected, since when there is talk of easing enforcement or tightening enforcement illegal immigration increases. Immigration has dominated this year’s presidential election, with both candidates offering very different approaches. This uncertainty causes individuals to risk the dangerous journey so they can be in the US before any changes are made. The Rio Grande Valley remains ground zero for the latest surge, however sectors as far west as San Diego sector are reporting dramatic increases.
