Government Shutdown 2018

The U.S. Senate failed to pass a Continuing Resolution to fund the Government past midnight, so at 12:00 am (EST), the Government will go into a shutdown, the first since 2013.

Border Patrol agents can expect to receive a Notice for Exempt Employee notifying them that they are considered exempt from a furlough and are required to report to work as scheduled. Those employees considered non-essential should expect to receive furlough notices.

Although there is no guarantee of backpay, there has never been a shutdown in which employees were not paid retroactively. We remain hopeful that Congress will work through the weekend in order to fund the Government prior to Monday.

We will keep you informed of developments.
